In recent years, the "Green Friday" has been a symbol for environmental awareness. This year, from November 18th to December 2nd, the Bielefeld-based EK/Servicegroup is shifting the focus to a social issue with their "Snack Friday." This year, Licht+Concept lighting retailers aim to provide underprivileged children at primary and special schools with a free school breakfast.
"Even though it is not in our specialist retailers' nature to participate in discount battles, they of course want to benefit from the increased willingness to buy during Black Week – because for many consumers, Black Friday has long become the new Christmas! Our Snack Friday campaign is therefore designed to align the interests of consumers with those of specialist retailers," explains Jochen Pohle, Chief Retail Officer of EK Retail.
During the promotional period from November 18 to December 2, participating LichtConcept retail partners will make the following offer: For every light sold or repaired, the retailer will donate to the organization Brotzeit, which ensures that needy children receive a balanced, free breakfast at more than 400 primary and special schools across Germany.
"When we heard that in Germany every fifth child goes to school hungry in the morning, it was clear to us that we wanted to help here. Our retailers and industry partners were also immediately enthusiastic about the idea and have pledged their support," reports Martin Wolf, EK's Sales and Marketing Director for Electronics/Kitchen/Lighting.
Not having had breakfast often means that children find it harder to concentrate in class, which can also negatively affect their performance and social behavior. What makes Brotzeit e. V. special are the over 2,400 volunteer breakfast helpers, most of whom are seniors. The regular contact with elderly people also strengthens the children's social skills. Children from families where little or no German is spoken particularly benefit from the opportunity to improve their language skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
"With our Snack Friday, brick-and-mortar retailers once again demonstrate that they not only ensure the local supply of goods but are also willing to take responsibility for our society," explains Thorsten Niebuhr, Senior Concept Manager at Licht+Concept.
The campaign is once again being supported by renowned industry partners of EK. Participating are:
who are contributing donations to this campaign. "Without the support of our suppliers, such an initiative would be unthinkable," says Martin Wolf. "From our perspective, our Snack Friday is once again an impressive example of how much can be accomplished when retailers, cooperative groups, and industry pull together!"
